Torrent IP check

This torrent IP check shows the IP address your torrent client really uses. Other peers in a torrent swarm can see that IP, so it should be your VPN’s IP, not your home connection’s.

How the torrent IP check works

  • Click Generate test torrent. We make a unique, empty test torrent just for you.
  • Open the magnet link or the .torrent file in your client (qBittorrent, Transmission, Deluge, µTorrent and others).
  • Your client contacts our tracker to look for peers. The tracker records the IP and port it connects from and shows it on this page.
  • Nothing is downloaded. The torrent has no peers and contains a few bytes of text. You can remove it from your client when you are done.

How to read your results

  • Protected: the client connects from a VPN or proxy IP.
  • Not protected: the client connects from a regular ISP IP. Anyone in a swarm can see it.
  • Partial leak: the client used a VPN IP at one point and your real IP at another. This often happens when the VPN reconnects without a kill switch.

How to keep your torrent IP private

  • Bind your client to the VPN. In qBittorrent, open Tools > Options > Advanced > Network interface and pick your VPN adapter. The client then stops if the VPN drops.
  • Turn on the VPN kill switch and test it.
  • Check split tunneling. Make sure your torrent client is not excluded from the VPN.
  • If you use a SOCKS5 proxy, set it for peer connections too, not just the tracker.

FAQ

Is this torrent IP check safe?

Yes. The test torrent is created for you, contains no real files and has no other peers. Only the tracker connection is recorded, and the result expires after two hours.

Why does the page say “waiting”?

Your client has not contacted the tracker yet. Make sure the torrent is started, not paused, and that your client allows trackers. It can take up to a minute.

Does my browser IP matter here?

No. The browser and the torrent client can use different routes. That is why we test the client itself. For your browser, run the VPN leak test.
